New tools as well as expanded and completely reworked features help you turn your ideas into reality even quicker and with less effort. That would be AWESOME.Cinema 4D makes the easiest-to-use professional 3D software more efficient than ever before. Man, I wish Maxon would come out with a Linux client. Plus, that skimpy storage stuff kinda bothers me. The advantage of using it over a PC build with comparable processing power is from other software that can take advantage of the GPUs, right? ![]() So I guess my question, a corollary to OP's question, is whether people are looking at the new Mac Pro heavily for Cinema 4D, or would you look at the new Pro because it gets you where you need to be in other areas as well? I'm guessing that the new Pro, aside from being the most powerful Mac available at all, would be heavily under-utilized by Cinema 4D by itself. I'm not doing heavy modeling type stuff - I'm a "serious hobbiest" rather than a professional, but that seems to me to get more bang for the buck compared to the Mac Pro unless I was doing this a lot more than I am and for a living.Īdditionally, a PC would allow me to hit the gaming side as I have a bit of that concern as well (I currently bootcamp my mac, which is showing its age with the graphics card as well). my thought is that if I'm looking for just raw horsepower, I need to consider building a PC-based render team client that I can throw on the network and use as pure horsepower when I need it. I'm fluent with PCs, that's not a problem and I don't want to bring that into the discussion. I love my Mac Pro, I love using Macs, I prefer that over all else. I just checked, and you can start with either base model to get to this same point for the same price. So let's say $4300 to make it a bit more future-proof and give me 5-6 years with it. ![]() So adding another $400 to get the next upgrade for that might be worth it. ![]() I can't justify moving up for the graphics card as per another post C4D might never really take advantage of GPU processing and After Effects is the only thing I use that might right now. Doing a quick pricing of a new Mac Pro, the entry level model with a bump up to the 3.5GHz 6-core, add $100 to get to 16GB RAM, then up to 512GB flash storage (ouch that hurts!) I'm sitting at $3900 before tax. So I have been wondering what I'll upgrade to when my Mac Pro finally doesn't cut it - it might be another year or 18 months, but it'll happen. What's really cool with R15 is how easy Team Render is to get working, so I have my MBP Retina 2.7GHz i7 (16GB RAM) sitting on the shelf adding to the available horsepower and although not as fast as the Mac Pro, it's scary close for a laptop with half the available processing units (8 threads vs 16 for the Pro). That's my primary C4D workstation and it's speedy, but definitely showing its age in terms of processing power. I'm currently running an early 2009 Mac Pro (2x2.26 Quad-Core xeon), 16GB RAM.
